Position Title: Funeral Assistant

Job Summary: The Funeral Assistant is a part-time role supporting funeral directors in delivering exceptional service to grieving families. This position assists with service preparations, family interactions, and facility operations to ensure dignified experiences. Availability for evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts is essential. A valid driver’s license is required in the event driving a company vehicle is needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Arrange chapel setups for funerals and visitations, managing floral displays, and seating.
Provide empathetic support to families, addressing concerns and guiding them during services with professionalism.

Our Story

A native of Macon, Harley Ray (Spanky) Beck began his career working part time in the funeral industry in 1978, serving his apprenticeship at Hart’s Mortuary under the leadership of J. Freeman Hart, Jr., Joe Childs, Jr. and Milton Heard III.
Spanky is a graduate of Gupton- Jones Mortuary College and Emory School of Medicine Eye Enucleation.
He was co-founder of Beck and Bridges Funeral Home in Gray, Georgia, selling his interest to partner Jerry Bridges, Sr. in 1986. Spanky and his family moved to Forsyth to open Monroe County Memorial Chapel in 1988 and to make Forsyth and Monroe County their home. Mr. Beck was also co-founder of Ingleside Memorial Chapel in Macon. In 1998 he sold his interest to SCI.
He supports and contributes to many organizations. Spanky is a charter member of the Forsyth Rotary Club and a member of the Forsyth Kiwanis Club. He actively works in the community to make this part of central Georgia a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
