Violet Marion Thomas

Violet Marion Thomas, 95, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on September 20, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.

Violet was born on August 3, 1931, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Walter J. Johnson and Edna Merle Black. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Forsyth and a prior member of the Georgia Baptist women’s chorus, the Jubalheirs. As a pastor’s wife, Violet shared a life of ministry and service with her husband, Reverend Leaman Thomas, serving in several communities, including Louisville, Kentucky; Columbus, Georgia; Homerville, Georgia; and Atlanta, Georgia. Her husband later completed his career as a chaplain with the Georgia State Prison System.

Violet had a love for travel and was blessed to visit many special places, including England, Italy, and the Holy Land. She treasured the memories made through her travels and the many people she met along the way.

Violet will be remembered for her faith, her love for her family, and her life of service to others. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Violet will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laura Thomas Lowe (Kevin) of Canton, Georgia and daughter-in-law, Pat Thomas Trimm (David) of Tucker, Georgia; grandchildren: Alan Thomas (Jannah), Glenn Thomas (Heather), Melanie Thomas (Micah Nance), Joshua Lowe (Candence), Rebecca Hollingsworth (Ashton), Trevor Thomas, and Lance Thomas; sister, Rilla Johnson Nelson Hardin of Warner Robins, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Silas Leaman Thomas; son, Mark Thomas; and sister, Phyllis Greene.
