Shirley Short

Shirley Short, devoted wife, mother, sister and friend passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the age of 73. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with the service following at 4:00 p.m., at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will be in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jimmy Corbitt will officiate

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh M. Short, her daughter, Airman First Class Marnie A. Short, her parents, Arthur and Viviola Stone and her sisters, Sara Scott and Terry Viles. Prior to their deaths she was the devoted care giver for her mother, sisters, her husband “Short” and best friend, Candace Herndon.

Shirley is survived by her son, David M. Short; grandson, Brandon M. Short; many nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends from her church.

Spending time with friends was Shirley’s love and joy. She delighted in baking cakes and preparing favorite recipes for her friends and for church socials. She enjoyed decorating and arranging flowers. For years Shirley was in charge of preparing communion at her beloved church where she was active until her illness prevented her from participating.
