Ellen Rose Miller White passed away peacefully on February 7, 2021. She is survived by her husband Melvin White of Stockbridge, GA, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friends. She lost her little dog, Bubba, last week and now they are joined in Heaven along with all her siblings and parents, her daughter and grandson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Lila Miller of Ammon, NC; her sisters Mildred Winders of Wilmington, NC, Helen Belt of Indian Springs, GA, Marlene Miller (Billy) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; and brothers Fred “Buddy” Miller (Joan) of Woburn, MA, Wilbur (Madeline) Miller of Wilmington, NC, Clyde Miller of Lakeland FL, and Gene Miller (Lucille) of Ammon, NC; and one daughter, Carrie Ann Bryant and one grandson, Stanley Miller.
Rose was born in Lumberton, NC on March 29, 1936 and grew up as a child working hard helping her father who was a farmer, fisherman, and a coon hunter and her mother who also helped to farm while raising 8 children. She developed a knowledge of many things and was known for being an extremely hard worker and strong businesswoman. After moving to Atlanta in her 30’s, she began to build her career as a residential building contractor building over 100 homes and owning a real estate brokerage company in Stockbridge GA known as Orr-Fisher Realty.
Rose’s main career of choice was spending time with her family and friends, and she loved to cook big meals, followed by home-made cheesecake and pound cake. She had a talent and a smile to bring joy to anyone she met and had a great sense of humor. She rarely met a stranger and loved to entertain at her lovely home.
When not visiting her family mostly still in NC, she loved to travel and had many other countries and other states checked off the list. She was a member of Stockbridge Presbyterian Church and served on many community boards through the years, often donating countless hours to helping charities. She helped many nieces and nephews, as many lived with her from time to time, and gave guidance and assistance. She enjoyed anything with her family including traveling, cooking, working in her yard, and eating out. She especially enjoyed sharing time with her dogs, with the last one being 14 years old. She will be missed by all as her zest for life and bright smile lit up the room.
A private family service will be held at 2pm at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Winnabow, NC followed by a Celebration of Life where food will be served in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mill Creek Church, 1099 George II Hwy, Winnabow, NC 28479 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis. TN 38105.
