Robert Franklin Burson

Robert Franklin “Bob” Burson passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends the day of the service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Bob was born May 16, 1931, in Statham, Georgia. His parents James Franklin and Evelyn Peacock Burson and his son, Kenneth Alan Burson preceded him in death.  He attended school in Atlanta.  Bob served three years in the US Naval Reserve as an air traffic controller and worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller in the Atlanta Center and in the Atlanta Tower of the Atlanta Airport.  He learned to fly airplanes in 1952 and was a pilot for Eastern Airlines from June 1966 thru early retirement in August 1989. He married his wife Gwen in March 1963. They celebrated fifty-four years together in March 2017. Survivors include his wife, Gwynda Street Burson of Forsyth; son, Stephen Y. Burson and his wife Brooke of Conyers; three grandsons, Jimmy Burson, Adam Burson and Ryan Burson; three granddaughters, Nikki Dayton, Alana Pons and Christina McLendon; six great grandsons and two great granddaughters.Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
