Richard Comer, Sr.

Richard Deane Comer, Sr., 88, of Monroe County, Georgia, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Hart’s at the Cupola, with the Reverend Keith Watson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

Richard was born on August 13, 1938, in Gray, Georgia, to the late Willam Durward Comer and Emma Florine Jackson Comer. He was a graduate of Jones County High School and proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He later served as a maintenance foreman with Southern Forestry Industries and worked as a welder during the construction of Plant Scherer.

Richard is survived by his three children, Deane Comer (Corrine), Renee C. Jones, and Shane Comer (Jennifer), all of Monroe County; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Estelle Herndon (Robert) of Macon; and brother-in-law, Elwyn Blalock (Judy) of Monroe County.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Laura Blalock Comer; wife, Mary Ann Long Comer; brother, Robert Haralson; and sisters: Reba Bowen, Velma Watts, Edna Warren, and Hazel Roberts.
