Phillip Ronald Welch Sr, 90, of Forsyth passed away Sunday June 1, 2025. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Friday June 13, 2025, at the Chapel of the Cupola 6324 Peake Road Macon, Georgia 31210 with the Reverend Alan Parker officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels Towers Foundation; www.dogood.t2t.org, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306, or the donor's favorite charity.
Ronnie was born December 7, 1934, in Macon to the late A.W Welch and the late Vera Evans Welch. He was a 1953 graduate of Lanier High School. Following High School, he then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and later retired from Robins Air Force Base. He was a “True Marine,” a devoted husband and father, a wonderful coach, and an avid golfer, even at 90. He was most proud being “Poppa” to 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He leaves behind to mourn his loss, sons Phillip Ronald Welch Jr, (Donna Sellers Welch) and Mickey Welch (Kathy Bell Welch) both of Juliette; daughter, Rhonda Welch DeZoort (Sean) of Forsyth; grandchildren Bennett Welch, Kacie Welch Scott (Trevor Scott), Heather Plaines (Ridgely), Spencer Welch (Lexie), Chloe DeZoort, Emmie DeZoort-Roper (Brady), and Abbie DeZoort; great-grandchildren, Tripp Plaines, Rylie Welch, and Will Roper; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Nancy Ethridge Welch; brother, Neil Welch; and sister, Jo Jones.
