Penny Sue Gift-McDonald, 74, passed away on April 28th, 2026, at the Monroe County Hospital after her extensive battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren as she passed, knowing she was loved.
Penny was born in Moreland, Oklahoma on April 24th, 1952, where she lived with her parents and two sisters until she moved to Barnesville, GA at the age of 11. She attended many schools in her life, some of which were the Dewey County School System in Seiling Oklahoma, Gordon Grammar School, and Gordon Military High School, where she was on the Homecoming Court and played on the Girl’s Basketball team for three years.
After that, she moved on to attending Mercer University in the early 90s. There she studied for her Paralegal Degree and once she graduated, she worked at various law offices in Barnesville, Macon, and Griffin, GA. She was recognized for her work, being dedicated to every case she worked on and putting pride in every case she took.
She was accomplished in cross stitching and crocheting. She loved making handmade items for her friends and family and loved teaching her children and grandchildren everything she knew. Alongside that, she loved gardening, having a garden wherever she lived. She was a woman with a bright personality, tons of energy and more sass than anyone knew what to do with.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Ross (Fuzz) Gift, husband Luther Wendell McDonald, Larry Clark (first husband and father of her children), and her precious nephew Taylor Dell.
Penny is survived by her children: April Paolo (Marc), David Clark, Michelle Clark (Ricky); Grandchildren: Collin Browning (Jordan), Zach Bunn, Elizabeth Crawley, Meghan Clark, and Katie Crawley (Matthew);Great grandchild: Baby Browning (any day now); Sisters Linda Akins (Bruce) and Tracey Gift; and her nieces and great nieces and nephews:Adrienne Loggins, Amanda Gunnels, Ashlyn Dell, Abigail and Everett Horne, and Addison and Harrison Loggins.
Penny will be remembered for her bright personality, her unwavering loyalty to those she loved and her caring nature that would make her give the clothes off her back for someone in need. She could make anyone smile and laugh, whether it be through her jokes or her willingness to sass anyone at a moment’s notice. She was a bright, beautiful woman who will be loved for many years to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association, 109 Forsyth Street, Barnesville, GA 30204.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel 86 West Main Street, Forsyth, Georgia, has charge of the arrangements.
