Michael Atkinson

David Michael Atkinson passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Rock Springs Church Cemetery.  Rev. Craig Walden will officiate.  Due to COVID-19 masks and social distancing are required.

Michael was born September 28, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Samuel Jackson Atkinson and Ruth Ann Bennett Atkinson.  His wife, Diane Whatley Atkinson preceded him in death. Michael was a general contractor and a veteran of the United States Army.

Michael is survived by his children, Lamar (Kimberly) Atkinson of Temple, Jennifer (Shawn) Johnson of Warrenton,  Kellie (Jaik) Rustemeyer of Heyworth, Illinois, Rhonda (Alan) Thomas of Locust Grove and Scott (Charity) Gasaway of Griffin; sisters, Cheryl Whatley (Randy) of Forsyth and Linda Warren of Forsyth; brother, Ralph Atkinson (Vanessa); and  eight grandchildren.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
