Mary Joyce Jackson Long passed away Friday, July 15th, 2022 at Monroe County Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 17th, 2022 at Fairview United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Forsyth City Cemetery. Rev. Stanley Harrell will officiate.
Mary was born April 9, 1933 in Forsyth, Georgia to the late Ernest Jackson and Maude Smith Jackson. Her husband of seventy years James Edmond Long preceded her in death. She was previously employed as a clerk at Monroe County Tax and Tag Office working beside her sister Ella Weldon, Tax Commissioner and she also was a poll worker during election times with Monroe County Registrars. Mary was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Sandra Waldrep (Jimmy) and Susan Pearce (Gerral); grandson; B. Todd Smith and his wife, Mary Kay; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew and Mary Margaret Smith. She was “Nana” from the time Todd was born. He was her favorite person and she was so very proud of all his accomplishments.
Flowers will be accepted or the family suggests donations to Fairview United Methodist Church, 137 Fairview Church Road, Forsyth, GA 31029.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
