Mary Evelyn was born on June 15, 1938, in Monroe County, Georgia, to the late William Wesley Smith and Evelyn McCarty Smith. She was the widow of Henry Harold Jackson.
Mary Evelyn was a graduate of Mary Persons High School Class of 1956. She graduated on a Friday and married Harold on Sunday, beginning a lifelong journey together. They were long-time members of New Providence Baptist Church, where Mary Evelyn taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Later, they were founding members of Bethany Baptist Church in Bolingbroke.
Mary Evelyn had a passion for spending time in her yard and vegetable garden. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing dominoes with friends.
Mary Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lynn Jackson Elsberry of Villa Rica, Georgia; son, David Jackson (Heather) of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren: Jodi Dempsey (Nathan) of Douglasville, Georgia, Travis Elsberry (Carley) of Dallas, Georgia, Erica Elsberry (Antoine Foster) of Villa Rica, Georgia, Cassidy Westbrook (Kris) of Dallas, Georgia, and Molly Wilds (Caleb) of Juliette, Georgia; great grandchildren: Will Mannino, Mackenzie Dempsey, Preston Dempsey, Madi Dempsey, Zoey Elsberry, Reagan Elsberry, Henry Elsberry, Brayden Elsberry, Jackson Westbrook, Beckham Westbrook, Cannon Wilds, and Mac Wilds; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Evelyn was preceded in death by her great grandchild, Carter Wilds; brother, Mac Smith; and son-in-law, William Donald "Donnie" Elsberry.
