On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Mary Calhoun made her heavenly journey to spend eternity with the Lord she loved and served all of her life. Born Mary Nettie Raines on November 24, 1927 in Moran, Georgia, she was predeceased by her parents George Thomas Raines and Mamie Ruth Raines (née Scott).
Eagerly awaiting her arrival in Heaven, were her sisters, Annie Ruth Johnson (Franklin), Margaret Ann Jarriel (Herbert) and one brother, William Thomas Raines (Gailya), and her husband of 43 years, Crisler DaVitte Calhoun.
Missing her here are her daughter Lucy Scott Hollman (Dan), her son William “Bill” DaVitte Calhoun (Kristy), much-loved grandchildren, Raymond Scott Hollman, Cory Crisler Hollman and Clayton Calhoun Hollman, Kevin Slaughter and Kirsti Henry (Josh), and dear great-grandsons Braxton Scott Hollman, Jaxon Henry, and Leo Henry.
Mary spent most of her life living and working in Forsyth, Georgia and in the Russellville community she loved. Following her graduation from Mary Persons High School, she was employed by Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph as an Operator. There she met and fell in love with the man who would become her husband, Crisler DaVitte Calhoun. They married in 1949 after his return from World War II and raised their two children on a beautiful farm in Russellville and were together until his death in 1992.
In 1971, with her two children mostly grown, she ventured into the world of working outside the home. She was employed as the Assistant to the Hospital Administrator of Monroe County Hospital for many years. Then, seeking to advance her career, she began a correspondence course to acquire professional certification as a Medical Records Technician. With this certification firmly in hand, she was promoted to the Medical Records Technician position at the hospital. After 19 years of faithful service, she retired to focus on other opportunities.
She remained busy in her retirement, with Hospital Pink Ladies, Monroe County Home Extension Group and others. But primarily by expanding the opportunities she found to serve the church she loved for more than 50 years, Russellville Baptist Church.
