November 7, 1941 — December 22, 2020

James Frederick Proctor passed away on December 22, 2020. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Monroe Memorial Gardens with Rev. Pam Johnston officiating. Jimmy was born in Butts County but was raised in High Falls. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred Ham Proctor and Annie Kate Abernathy Proctor. He was educated in Monroe County Schools and graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1960. He was very proud to be a quarterback for all four high school years. His senior year was under Coach Dan Pitts, whom he admired and respected from then on. Jimmy often regaled family and friends with football stories and was a faithful supporter of the Mary Persons football team. He joined the National Guard at age eighteen and served for eight years in the Reserves. Jimmy married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie Stuart, on January 1, 1961. Over the course of his professional career, he worked in the dairy business, carried mail, owned and operated Forsyth Oil Company, and was owner and operator of Proctor Logging Company for fifty-two years until 2015. In his later years, he worked for Monroe County Recycling Center from 2016 until 2018. In 2018, he began his dream job working at Southern Forest Industries. He loved all of his SFI family, but his favorite was Mama, the dog. He was still working there up until his most recent illness. Jimmy was an avid fisherman, reader, and a conversationalist. He loved to talk with friends and share stories.  He was a longtime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family. In particular, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of joy to him.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Stephanie Stuart Proctor. Survivors also include his children: Michael Proctor (Ann), Susan Proctor Williams (Joey), Amanda Proctor Boyt (Tracy), and Dan Proctor (Angela). In addition, he had thirteen grandchildren: Trey Williams, Drew Proctor (Esther), Tara Williams, Megan Proctor, Jack Proctor, Haleigh Williams, Anna Beth Williams Shepard (Joshua), Martin Williams (Samantha), Emily Boyt, Matthew Boyt, Haley Andrews Fleming (Mike), Audrey Proctor, and Conner Gus Proctor. Additionally he had seven great-grandchildren: Ruby Beth Shepard, Reagan Shepard, Rhett Shepard, Blaine Williams, Grayson Williams, Addison Proctor, and Jaxton McGarry. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Stuart Geib, and his brother-in-law, Terry Herndon.
