Jarman Hoyal Holloway

December 15, 1937 — December 6, 2020

On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Jarman Hoyal Holloway, loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at his home and entered the presence of his Heavenly father.

Hoyal was born on December 15, 1937, in Spring City, TN, to Jarman and Jessie Holloway. He graduated from Spring City High School where he was an outstanding football player and continued playing the sport in college. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, AK. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Martha Faye Burton of Sale Creek, TN, and built a happy life with her for 57 years. They raised two daughters, Jan and Michele, who were the joys of his life. For over 30 years, he worked for and eventually retired from Dupont in Chattanooga, TN.

Aside from spending time and traveling with his family, Hoyal was an avid fisherman, who loved to spend time on the water. He also was a handyman; if there was anything broken, he made it his mission to fix it. Watching Tennessee football was also one of his favorite pastimes, and he never missed a game. However, his most important moments were spent with his three grandchildren, Alex, Christian, and Ansley. Most importantly, Hoyal had a passionate faith in Christ and served Him to the utmost in the way that he loved and helped others in need with his generous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jarman and Jessie Holloway; his sisters Celia James, Loretta Strickland, LaPriel Lyles, Metha Crawford; and his brothers, Calvin Holloway and Edwin “Babe” Holloway. He is survived by his wife Martha; his daughters Jan (Lee) Gerdes and Michele Collins; his grandchildren, Alex Gerdes and Christian and Ansley Collins; and several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Lighthouse Community Hospice for their loving care and support. A celebration of life will be held in Sale Creek, TN, at a later date, which is to be determined.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
