James Alton Goolsby

May 11, 1938 — September 27, 2020

James Alton Goolsby (Jimmy) went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, September 27, 2020. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.  Rev. Mark Goolsby will officiate.  The family will greet friends the day of the service from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p. m., at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.  There is a limit of 50 people at any large gathering, social distancing must be recognized and the use of mask is encouraged. Please be respectful of the family during this difficult time and follow the requirements of the CDC.  

Jimmy was born May 11, 1938 in Jonesboro, Georgia, son of Willie and Ella Phillips Goolsby. He retired from General Motors in 1981 where he worked 30 years. After retiring from General Motors he lived in Americus and Fort Valley Georgia and in Forsyth with his son Greg for the past 2 plus years. Jimmy could be seen working in his yard in Fort Valley or eating at his favorite lunch restaurant Ole Times Buffet where he ate every day. In his years in Forsyth he enjoyed watching the birds from the back porch and eating at Garden Patch in Barnesville. He was a loving Father and Grandfather who worked hard at everything he did his entire life.         

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Earl Goolsby, Douglas Goolsby and Richard Goolsby and his grandson Clayton Goolsby.         

He is survived by his three sons Timothy Goolsby, Michael Goolsby both from Warner Robins and Gregory Goolsby of Forsyth; grandchildren Kaycee Crumpton of Perry, Callie Goolsby, Drew Goolsby and Hayden Goolsby of Warner Robins; great grandchildren Bella Raskey of Warner Robins, Michael Goolsby of Warner Robins and Kennedy Crumpton of Perry; sisters and brother–in-laws,  Joyce  Hill of North Carolina, Janet Gattis of Florida, Barbara and Tommy Conine of Madison, Tina Jones of Tucker and Francis and Billy Davenport of Ellaville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
