Joe Talmadge “J.T.” Bunn died on Saturday morning, June 1, 2024, after a brief illness. The youngest of 12 siblings, J.T. was born April 18, 1940, in Forsyth, Georgia, to Otis and Frances Bunn. He attended Mary Persons High School, graduating in 1958. Most of his professional career was spent as an insurance agent, and he established The Bunn Agency, LLC, in 1981. J.T. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Hardage Bunn, in 2014. Survivors include his son, Dr. Gregg Bunn (Jason) of Nashville, TN; Eric Bunn (Shelby) of Forsyth; grandsons Gregory Alexander and Blake Andrew Bunn, granddaughter, Ella Alexis Bunn; and a large extended family.
A lifetime resident of Forsyth and Monroe County, J.T. served as a county commissioner (district 3) for one term in 1988. For many years, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball with the Monroe County Recreation Department. J.T. treasured his farming equipment and tractors, and for many years planted large gardens during the summer months. A long-time member of New Providence Baptist Church, his faith in Jesus Christ was the bedrock of his life.
Visitation will be held at Monroe County Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
A memorial service in gratitude for J.T.’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at New Providence Baptist Church, 2560 US-41, Forsyth, GA, 31029. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the following organizations:
