Harold Lee Smith, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022. Harold, the son of Curtis M. Smith, Sr. and Catheryn Smith, was born on July 31, 1944, in Forsyth, Georgia.
Harold is predeceased by an infant daughter, Amy Elizabeth; his parents; his brothers, Curtis M. Smith, Jr. and Robert L. Smith, and his sister, Joanne Smith. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glenda Crawley Smith; his son, Harold Lee Smith, Jr., grandsons Claren and Bright of Athens, GA; and son, William Glen Smith (Janna), granddaughter Kasey and grandson Zeke, of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Becky) Smith of Forsyth, and four nieces.
Harold attended Mary Persons High School and served his country as a paratrooper in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC.
After service, Harold worked for Marbut Company in Macon, GA, for several years. He then worked for two successful family businesses, owning his own wholesale bait business and managing W. C.’s Minit Mart for 32 years. He also owned H. L Smith Construction Company for l5 years.
Harold loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and canoeing. He also began golfing in the late l980’s and played constantly several times a week until his health declined. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the USA exploring the backroads and byways across the nation.
Most of all, he loved and enjoyed his family, especially playing with his four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wed. Nov. 23rd, 2022 from 1 – 2pm at Monroe County Memorial Chapel followed by the funeral service at 2pm.
