A Man of Faith, Family, and The Great Outdoors

Glenn Evan Watson, age 60 from Forsyth, Ga was sent to his eternal home on November 12th, 2025. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend.

Glenn grew up in Forsyth, Ga in a historic farmhouse that had been in his family for six generations. This house was out in the country, so he spent many hours hunting, fishing, canoeing, swimming and exploring the neighboring woods. This life instilled in him a love for the outdoors and a love of history. When he was fifteen, he got the opportunity to go to Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. At Philmont, he went on a 10-day backpacking trek with a group of other boys. This was a great experience, that was one of the factors that started his love for hiking.

Glenn's love for nature and outdoor recreation continued throughout his life. He majored in Recreation and parks management in college.

Glenn was a teacher and a coach for ten years, and had been running a small lawn maintenance business for the past seventeen years. He later started a hiking ministry through his church to encourage friends to get together and enjoy God’s creation and see new and different places in our area that we may not necessarily go and see. Doing research to find places to hike and getting out there and seeing these places and just how majestic God’s creations are, opened his eyes to places that are right here in the Middle Georgia area that are waiting to be explored. This was the inspiration for his dream turned reality, Red Dirt Vagabond.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandy Watson; daughter, Megan Harrison and husband Kyle Harrison; son, Sam Watson and Sarah Farber; son, Beau Watson; daughter, Abby Watson; grandchild, Suzy Harrison; beloved mother, Gayle Watson; siblings, Gordon Watson and wife Margie, Beth Jefferies and husband Bill, and Amy Strobel and husband David. He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Watson.
