George Phillip Wilson

August 20, 1953 — April 7, 2024

FORSYTH

Mr. George Phillip Wilson, 70, of Monroe County, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024. Memorial services will be 11:00AM Saturday April 13, 2024, at Russellville Baptist Church 111 Russellville Road Forsyth, Georgia, with the Reverend Bill Wilson and Rev. William Pickett officiating.

George was born in Forsyth and a graduate of Mary Persons High School. He and his wife, Christa, established Wilson Farms Propane and owned and operated their business for 28 years. George and Christa enjoyed getting away to St. Simons Island, and he loved taking Christa to nice restaurants in Atlanta and meeting up with friends. He had an appreciation and great love for good food and loved talking about recipes. Cooking and sharing food to give to others, and hosting gatherings at his barn was his way of showing his love. Raising his prized Herford cattle began as a hobby but became a 40-year love for his cows. A capable do-it-yourselfer, he restored his father’s old Farmall tractor a few years back, and he even built himself a barn with his own vintage sawmill. On most days George would often be found somewhere on the farm; picking morning flowers for Christa or cooking and building an evening fire for him and her at the barn; or at the barn drinking coffee, watching Westerns, or cooking Brunswick stew and collards, to share and give to friends and family. He loved his summer garden and made prized pear preserves from the pear trees his mother planted at the home place, where he and Christa live and raised Maggie. Anyone who knew George knew he had three grandchildren, (Georgia, Sawyer & Gretchen) and his one and only child, Maggie. He shared pictures of his grandkids and talked about them all the time. George adored his wife Christa, daughter Maggie, and his three grandchildren and son-in-law Daniel. They were his world. He loved taking the grandkids fishing at the pond, letting them feed the donkeys and horses, teaching them to cook in his barn kitchen, and was always

tinkering with bikes and things for them to ride on. George also loved the logging business. He loved the big machines and enjoyed the timber process. It was his first love of entrepreneurial businesses, and he loved talking “logging” with his son-in-law, Daniel. George loved being on his farm in a tractor; bush hogging or bailing hay with his dear friend Tiger, or on his bulldozer or tract ho working on lower canals and working the farm.

George was a long-time member of Russellville Baptist Church and Forsyth United Methodist Church. His family will remember him as a romantic who loved sharing his life with Christa. His motto throughout his life was: Faith – Family – Friends.

Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by his parents, Louise and John Wilson Sr. He is survived by his wife, Christa Wilson; daughter, Maggie Dunagan (Daniel) of Rome, Georgia; grandchildren, Georgia, Sawyer, and Gretchen; siblings John Wilson (Susan) of Crawford County, Georgia, Carol Bilbo (Andy) of Marietta, Georgia, Tommy Wilson (Penny) of Forsyth, Georgia; and Kay Tribble (Michael) of Gray, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
