Evelyn Carol Stephens

August 28, 1946 — February 6, 2026

Lizella

On Friday, February 6, 2026, at home with her family by her side, Evelyn Carol Stephens, 79, of Lizella, Georgia, finished her earthly journey and went home to be with her Lord.

Carol was born on August 28, 1946, in Winona, West Virginia, to the late Jefferson Zedock Stephens and Thelma Ida Ramsey Stephens. She graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1964 and later worked at Lockheed after she graduated from Crandall Business College. She earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Coosa Valley Technical College and was certified in Respiratory Therapy.

Carol’s life was a testament to her servant’s heart. As a caseworker for the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Lamar County, she poured her passion into helping families navigate their hardest days, always advocating for those in need with kindness and grace.

A devoted Christian, Carol found her greatest peace in the simple joys of God’s creation. She spent countless happy hours in her garden, tending to her beautiful flowers and feeding the birds. Whether she was fishing, trying out a new recipe in the kitchen, or simply spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, Carol’s world revolved around the family she loved so dearly. To her, there was no greater blessing than time spent together.

Carol was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Ashley Compton, Dallas Compton, and Cody Watson; brother, Jimmy Stephens; and sister, Renee Caswell.

Her legacy of love lives on through her daughters, Chris Compton (Darrell) of Lizella, Cyndy Grubbs (Bobby) of Lizella, and Brandy Hobbs (Mike) of Griffin; her four grandchildren, Daniel Compton (Kori), Dustin Compton, Haleigh Grubbs, and Brandon Hobbs (Kayla); and her four great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dakota, and Devin Compton, and Faerin Hobbs. She is also survived by her sister, Kathi Hodges (Charlie) of Madison, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with Pastor Eddie Coatney officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.
