Diane Atkinson

Mary Diane Whatley Atkinson passed away Friday, July 26, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2019, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Rock Springs Church Cemetery. Rev. Craig Walden will officiate. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.

Diane was born May 9, 1948, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Robert Grady Whatley and Opal Minter Whatley.   She was a talented artist and retired from Georgia State Medical Board as a Board secretary. Above all, Diane enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with them whenever she could. She was a loving mom, nannie, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Atkinson of Locust Grove; children, Rhonda (Alan) Thomas of Locust Grove, Scott (Charity) Gasaway of Griffin, Kellie (Jaik) Rustemeyer of Heyworth, Illinois, Lamar (Kimberly) Atkinson of Temple and Jennifer (Shawn) Johnson of Warrenton; eight grandchildren; sisters, Trisha Whatley of Atlanta and Gina (Eric) Sthreter of Johns Creek; brothers, Randy (Cheryl) Whatley of Forsyth and Tony (Lynn) Whatley of Conyers.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
