Charlotte Ann Vaughan Hester passed away Monday, April 27, 2026. Visitation will be at Monroe County Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 28, from 6-8. Funeral services will be held at Maynard Baptist Church, 1195 Juliette Road, Forsyth, GA 31029 on Wednesday, April 29 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Hester, the daughter of the late George McKinley Vaughan and the late Annie Mae Marshall Vaughan, was born in Macon, GA. She grew up in a close-knit family of ten children. She enjoyed spending her 90th birthday in October with family and friends.
Mrs. Hester began her career working at W. T. Grant Co. in Macon and later worked for Big Star Grocery and Green’s Propane Gas, Co., both in Forsyth. She was well-known throughout the county for her baking skills, especially her famous cakes and cheese straws.
Mrs. Hester, a devout Christian, was a longtime member of the former Second Baptist Church and Maynard Baptist Church, both in Forsyth. She enjoyed various church activities and held several positions of leadership. She was a former member of the Square Dance Association, active in the Swinging Ramblers Camping Club, and was incredibly supportive of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Association.
Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Dennis Hester; her sisters Barbara Davis and Peggy Bloodworth; brother, Gene Vaughan; brothers-in law Terry Knapp, Vernon Davis, Jack Evans, and Mel Walker; and sister- in-law, Mary Vaughan.
Her children include Sonja (Cliff) Evans of Smarr and Tim (Connie) Hester of Forsyth. She also leaves behind grandchildren Cliff Evans III (Lindsey) and Kyle Evans (Brooke), as well as great-grandchildren Sophie, Sara, Scarlet, and Eli Evans, all of whom reside in Smarr; brothers, Weyman (Sue) Vaughan, Chappie (Selena) Vaughan, Chipper (Tonya) Vaughan; sisters, Anita Walker, Georgia Knapp, and Debbie Evans; brother-in-law Fred Hester (Bobbie); and special caregiver Carolyn Geiger.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, Inc. P O Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281; St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or donor’s charity of choice.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel 86 West Main Street, Forsyth, Georgia, has charge of the arrangements.
