Charles Eugene “Gene” Lunsford Sr., 85, of Forsyth, Georgia, passed away Monday October 23, 2023. Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Hambric Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Monroe Memorial Gardens, Ensign Road in Forsyth. The family will greet friends Wednesday, 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Son of the late Walker Titus Lunsford and Magnolia Cochran Lunsford, Gene was born July 21, 1938, in Forsyth, Georgia. He was a 1956 Mary Persons High School graduate, where he was a Future Farmers of America club member. After High School, he proudly served his country in the Army National Guard.
In his professional life, Gene devoted 38 years to Sears, beginning as an installer before eventually becoming a salesperson. His energetic spirit and unique skills subsequently led him to a fulfilling 20-year career at Dodd Building Supply. Always a pillar of the community, Gene also dedicated his time to driving the school bus for the Monroe County Board of Education.
Gene had a long-standing and devoted membership to First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and chairman of the building committee. He was also committed to the Primetime Sunday School class. A family man at heart, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Gene's vibrant personality and steadfast faith will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gwendolyn Lunsford of Forsyth; son, Charles Lunsford Jr. of Forsyth; daughter, Gina Shremshock (Ron) of Bonaire, Georgia; two grandchildren, GeneMarie Shremshock and Ryan James Shremshock, both of Bonaire, Georgia; sisters, Patricia Purser (Charles) of Forsyth, Georgia and Martha Carr (Larry) of Augusta, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Benjamin Crutchfield, Myron Purser, Ty Parker, Ryan Purser, and Barbara Parker Dean; and brother-in-law, Danny Parker of Forsyth.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Nettie Parker.
