Carolyn Toman

Carolyn Toman, a beloved educator and dedicated agriculturalist, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2023. She was born on September 4, 1944, in Davisboro, Georgia, to the late James Prince and Dorothy Cowart Prince. Carolyn's life was filled with remarkable accomplishments and profound impact both within the classroom and beyond.  The family will greet friends 5:00pm - 7:00pm Thursday October 5, 203 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, 86 West Main Street, Forsyth, Georgia as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.  The funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday October 6, 2023, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1530 Hwy 41 S., Barnesville, GA 30204 with interment to follow at the church cemetery.  
 
With an unwavering passion for teaching, Carolyn spent twenty years at Mary Person's High School, where she left an indelible mark on the generations of students. Her commitment to education combined with her warm personality made her a cherished mentor and friend to many. Carolyn's nurturing spirit guided countless students toward success, instilling in them not only academic knowledge but also the values of compassion and resilience. 
 
Beyond her teaching career, Carolyn furthered her dedication to agriculture by working for the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Her deep love for wildlife and nature resonated in all that she did. Through her tireless efforts, she contributed significantly to preserving and protecting our natural resources for future generations. 
 
Carolyn's academic journey was equally impressive. She earned a bachelor's degree from Tift College before completing a master's degree at Georgia College. These accomplishments were a testament to her lifelong thirst for knowledge and intellectual growth. 
 
In addition to her professional achievements, Carolyn treasured the love and support of her family and friends. She leaves behind a rich legacy of memories shared with loved ones who will forever cherish the moments they spent together. Carolyn is survived by her sons Clay Shaw, Chris Shaw, Cale Shaw and Steven Toman, along with their spouses Denise Shaw, Debbie Shaw, and Laura Toman, as well as her brother Albert Prince. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her brother David Prince and her sister Anne Dukes of Davisboro, GA. 
 
Carolyn Toman touched countless lives throughout her journey in this world. She will be remembered as a compassionate teacher who inspired excellence in others while also leaving a lasting imprint on our planet through her dedication to environmental preservation. As we bid farewell to Carolyn, let us celebrate her remarkable life and honor the incredible woman she was. May her spirit forever guide us to be advocates for education and stewards of the environment, just as she was. Rest in peace, dear Carolyn, knowing that your legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to know you.
