Betty Pope Hicks

Betty Pope Hicks, 84, of Forsyth, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Russellville Baptist Church, with Reverend Bill Wilson officiating. The family will greet friends starting at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Betty was born in Wrightsville, Georgia, on November 3, 1941, to the late Thurmon Lucious Pope and Irmie Stewart Pope. She was a 1959 graduate of Wrightsville High School. Betty dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Monroe County Board of Education, where she held multiple positions throughout her career.

Betty was a faithful member of Russellville Baptist Church. She loved to read and, most of all, cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her son, Andy Hicks (Leslie) of St. Simons Island, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Carla Hicks of Forsyth, Georgia; grandchildren: Christina Fishback (Daniel) of Forsyth, Georgia, Shelby A. Hicks of Little Cumberland Island, Georgia, Frances Hicks (Cameron) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Genny Hicks of New York City; great grandchildren: Madilynn and Bailey Fishback; sister, Jean Bolt of Rome, Georgia; and sister-in-law, Lynn Pope of Wrightsville, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, William Bradford “Brad” Hicks, and brother, T.L. Pope, Jr. of Wrightsville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Russellville Baptist Church, 111 Russellville Rd, Forsyth, GA 31029.
