Bennie O. Bunn passed away peacefully at home on Oakridge Dr., Forsyth, early September 4th. Funeral services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at High Shoals Primitive Church off of High Falls Road. Rev. Debra Lefevers, Rev. Renfroe Watson, and Rev. Keith Harris will officiate. Bennie’s nephew, Dr. Gregg Bunn, Director of Music at Brentwood UMC in Brentwood, TN will provide music.
Bennie was born in Monroe County to the late Otis and Frances Jesup Bunn growing up on the family’s farm in Smarr. Other family members preceding him in death were his beloved son Perry, brothers, J.R., Fred, James, Claude, Woodrow, Alton, Frank and Bill, and sisters Ethel Bunn Ham and Betty Bunn Jenkins.
Bennie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanette Darden Bunn, sons Frank Darden Bunn and Michael S. Bunn (Lorraine) , brother J.T. Bunn, grandchildren Lindsey (Jim) McCord and Steven (Rachel) Bunn, four step-grandchildren, Kristen Allen (Phillip Hull), Tyler Allen, and Rachel (Daniel) Brennan, and Samer ElSheikh, also eight great-grandchildren, Maddox, Jackson, Rowan, & Emmett McCord, Malex & McRae Bunn, Harper Brennan & Sophia Hull and many nieces and nephews.
Bennie was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church where he served many positions including as Chairman of the Monroe County Horse Show several times sponsored by the Men’s Club. He was on the building committee for the latest addition to the church. Bennie was a hands-on person who enjoyed helping with the grounds at the church such as tractor work and landscaping.
Bennie retired from his service station, Bunn’s Service Center and also had a station on I-75 where he was known as the interstate missionary. He had many return customers locally and from across the country who became friends as well.
Visitation will be Friday evening at Monroe County Memorial Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family may be contacted at 462 Oakridge Drive. Donations may be made to Christ UMC Building Fund, 417 Frontage Road, Forsyth, GA 31029. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care to Bennie & the family these last several weeks.
