Owens
May 2, 1942 – May 20, 2026
Dames Ferry Baptist Church
Starts at 12:00 pm (Eastern time)
In loving memory of Barbara Owens, known to many as mammaw, who graced this world with her presence from May 2, 1942, to May 20, 2026. Born in the charming town of Pensacola, Florida, Barbara was the beloved daughter of Mary Bell and William Ross Winget. Her life's journey was one of love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit of gratitude that touched all who were fortunate to cross her path.
Barbara spent her early years in Georgia, where she graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1960s, marking the beginning of a life filled with purpose and compassion. Her career at Bibb Collections in Macon, Georgia, was more than just a job; it was a testament to her unwavering work ethic and her ability to bring warmth and kindness into every interaction. Her colleagues often spoke of her as someone who loved everybody and left a lasting impression of care and respect.
Barbara married the love of her life, William T. Owens Sr., with whom she shared 53 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was a beacon of love and mutual respect, and together they raised two wonderful children. Though William preceded her in death, the love they shared continues to inspire those who knew them.
Barbara's life was marked by both joy and sorrow. She faced the loss of her daughter, Teresa Owens Dupree, her sister Sharon Eldridge, her brothers Billy and Jimmy Winget, and her beloved granddaughter Alisha Owens with a heart full of faith and resilience. Her strength during these times was a testament to her character, as she remained a pillar of support and love for her surviving family members.
She leaves behind her cherished son, William T. Owens Jr., affectionately known as Tommy, her brother Mike Winget Sr., and her adored grandchildren Jessica Dupree, Trey Owens(Destiny Grace Tallman), and Dana Owens(Timothy and Alyssa Padgett). Each of them carries forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Barbara's life was a tapestry woven with threads of gratitude and blessing. She was a woman who saw the beauty in every moment and who was deeply thankful for the love that surrounded her. Her ability to embrace life with open arms and a generous heart made her a cherished friend to many and a guiding light for her family.
A service to celebrate Barbara's remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Dames Ferry Baptist Church, located at 189 Old Dames Ferry Rd, Juliette, Georgia. Friends and family are invited to honor her memory and celebrate the love she so generously shared with the world.
Though she has departed from this physical realm, Barbara Owens leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and gratitude that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
