Arthur Scott McCook

May 21, 1951 — March 19, 2026

Culloden

Arthur Scott McCook, known to some as Scotty, age 74, passed away at his home in Culloden, GA surrounded by family on March 19, 2026.

He was born on May 21, 1951, to Arthur Ferman “Mac” McCook and Vivian (Combess) McCook Wood, both of whom preceded him in death.

Scott graduated from A.R. Willingham High School in Macon, Georgia, where he spent his early years. He worked as an industrial account representative for nearly 30 years before retiring due to his health, and during those years, he also faithfully pursued his love for music, playing and singing regularly whenever he had the opportunity.

Music was a central part of Scott’s life. He played in several bands over the years, including The Celtics, The Majestics, The McCook Family Band, The Backlot Band, and Glory Singers. He also wrote and recorded his own music, producing several original CDs from his home studio, Red Top Studios.

His faith was a guiding force throughout Scott’s life. He faithfully led singing at Sharon Primitive Baptist Church for 20 years, where he also served as a deacon, Bible study teacher, and worked closely with the youth. Later, he continued serving at Antioch Baptist Church, where he played guitar alongside his son for 10 years. He remained a faithful member there until his passing.

Scott never met a stranger and loved playing and singing music with his family. He found joy in gathering with others and sharing songs. He will be remembered for his love of music, his dedication to his family, and his faithful service to the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to give special recognition to his oldest daughter, Emily Martin, for her selfless love and devoted care for him in his home during his final months.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Starr Upshaw McCook; his sisters, Donna Lee (Mike) and Amanda Hightower (David); and his stepmother, Clara McCook.

He is also survived by his children: Emily Martin, Cory McCook (Margaret), and Kelly McCook (fiancé, Dan).

He leaves behind his grandchildren: Katelyn McCook, Allen McCook, and Sadie McCook; Raelee Martin (fiancé, Austin) and Charlee Gay (Troy); and Brenley Hiers and Blossom Hiers; along with 2 step-grandchildren and 5 nieces and nephews.
