Ann Watkins Lucas

Mrs. Ann Sherroll Watkins Lucas, 86, of Forsyth, passed away September 15, 2023.  The family will greet friends Friday, September 22, 2023, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, 86 West Main Street Forsyth, the inurnment will be private. 

Ann was born at home in Forsyth, July 4, 1937, the daughter of Joseph Drewry Watkins and Willie Jewel “Bill” Lindsey.  

Ann graduated from Mary Persons High School, where she was a cheerleader and member of many clubs, including the Glee Club. She later studied at Tift College, where she was a member of choir, a small ensemble group, and a soloist. During these years, she played piano for Logwall Baptist Church, where she was a member, as well as for other churches when needed.  

She taught in Gordon County, where she met her husband, Paul.  The couple taught in Spaulding County for several years. As their family grew, Ann then devoted her time as a mother for years before working and retiring from the Glynn County Board of Education. She returned to Forsyth in 2000.  

She was a member of the Forsyth Presbyterian Church, on the board of the Monroe County Art Alliance, a volunteer at the Monroe County Historical Society and the Forsyth Book Club.  

Ann is survived by her husband, Paul R. Lucas, of Forsyth; sons, Paul Lucas, Jr. (Julie), of Fernandina Beach, Florida and William Drewry Lucas (Robin), of Suwanee, Georgia; daughter, Laura Youngblood (Dan), of Marietta, Georgia; sister, Carol Watkins Jones (Glen), of Forsyth; grandchildren, Alex Lucas (Jennifer), of Atlanta, Georgia, Zach Lucas (Megan), of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jake Lucas (Natalie), of Des Moine, Iowa, Sami Lucas, of Denver, Colorado, Gillian Lucas, of Denver, Will Lucas, of Dahlonega, Georgia, Lucas Fraser and Lindsey Fraser, both of Marietta, Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Woodrow, Wilder, Waylon, and Wynter Lucas, of Edmond, Oklahoma.    

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Monroe County Historical Society, P.O. Box 401, Forsyth, Georgia 31029.
