Mrs. Stoner was born Rowena Valery Moylan in Livonia Michigan. She was one of four children in a tight family during the depression. Her father was a World War I veteran that earned a living variously as an entertainer and newspaper editor. The family moved around a lot during Rowena’s younger life leaving her with deeply held convictions about family and friends. She worked in a bomber manufacturing plant during the Second World War and was very proud of her efforts to support the war effort. After WWII Rowena joined family in California and met her soon to be husband in San Diego California.
Rowena and Oliver were married in 1952. She found herself maintaining her small family alone over many long months as her husband deployed as a US Marine to various foreign deployments. Mrs. Stoner and her family settled in Forsyth Georgia after her husband retired from the Marine Corps in 1969. Mrs. Stoner was very proud of time she spent working at the Monroe County Hospital. She and Oliver were members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Macon. She and Oliver moved into an assisted living facility in Augusta to be near their son and daughter in law in January 2015.
Rowena, is survived by her beloved daughter Diane, son Jack (and his wife Nancy), and sisters-in-law Virginia Manor and Joy Krug. She leaves behind five loving grandchildren, Shawn Stoner, Jacquetta Ruston, Jessica Stoner, Jeffrey Stoner, and Joanne Stoner; and five great grandchildren; Cole Tyler, Rebecca, Jacob, Jayden, and Jovi.
